The first is based around Bo Diddley's "Who Do You Love" and aims to transform the song into a complex suite through the used of four of the band's own compositions, titled "When You Love", "Where You Love", "Which Do You Love" and "How You Love". This part of "Happy Trails" is the album's weak link, however, because too often the passion /5().

Without question, this follow-up to Quicksilver Messenger Service's self-titled debut release is the most accurate in portraying the band on vinyl in the same light as the group's critically and enthusiastically acclaimed live performances. The album is essentially centered around the extended reworkings of Bo Diddley's "Who Do You Love?" and "Mona," as well as the lesser lauded -- yet no less.

Happy Trails is the release that followed the self-titled Quicksilver Messenger Service debut album. Happy Trails contains a 25 minute, six-part cover of Bo Diddley's (aka Ellas McDaniel) "Who Do You Love". Side B of the album consists of a suite of music which runs almost continuous beginning with the Bo Diddley tune, Mona.
  6. Kazrazilkree says:
It was testament to the lasting contribution of Quicksilver Messenger Service — as was the fact that it landed at No. on Rolling Stone’s all-time top album list of Happy Trails Author: Paul Sexton.
  7. Disar says:
Except for the phenomenal "Happy Trails" (Rolling Stone, # on the Top Rock Albums of all Time) this is about as close as you can come to a live Quicksilver Messenger Service album in the halcyon San Francisco Haight Ashbury days. John Cipollina and his tremolo are in good form, as is Gary Duncan/5(88).
